Surf Over Painted Rocks

Surf Over Painted Rocks

Helen luna biran

$757

Foaming surf moves across a shoreline scattered with vividly colored rocks, with bands of turquoise water and white breakers stretching toward the horizon. Painted in oil on canvas, the work uses fluid brushwork for the sea and broader, sculpted strokes for the stones, creating contrast between motion and solidity. The bright palette gives the coastal scene an energetic, playful presence.

am a painter who photographs my experiences and then transfers them to colors and shapes on canvas. Recently I decided to create connections between my memories of my childhood and my past and my present. I was born in Tunisia and left my childhood and grandmother there. In my latest works there are connections between that girl whose world changed in an instant, without her choosing, upon immigrating to Israel, and the adult woman that I am today, a grandmother myself, an artist and an art instructor in various workshops. Jumps of longing for childhood in the face of the power of life and presence in Israel. I am not a political artist, all my works are very personal and are a collection of emotions, memories and thoughts about then and now. In one of my works, I gathered under one canvas experiences from several worlds and places in the world: India, Santorini, Tunisia and Israel. My works are not realistic photographs of the places but an adaptation of what my physical eyes see through my inner eye, the experiences and emotions. My admiration for what my eyes truly see and my desire for more people to see the beauty of creation like I do.
