Avital Horev
About
Art has always been a natural part of Avital’s life from her early studies in art and architecture to industrial design at "Bezalel" Academy of Arts at jerusalem, theater studies at Tel Aviv University, and further art studies at "Hamidrasha" School of Art at Beit Berl, creativity has remained a constant presence, even as life led her in other directions For many years, Avital worked in interior design, which she sees as a form of applied art, an opportunity to create living and working spaces that enrich people’s everyday lives Over time, her personal artistic practice grew quiet, and painting remained dormant for many years Then, almost unexpectedly, the spark returned. What began as playful experimentation with colors and materials soon reignited an intense passion for painting and revealed a new artistic language Today, in her garden studio overlooking the Carmel Mountain, Avital creates abstract paintings using acrylics, mixed media, and unconventional materials drawn from the world of construction Rich textures and sculptural relief give her works depth and a tangible physical presence, opening the way to an expressive, intuitive, and dynamic approach to painting For Avital, the creative process is an inward journey, one in which time seems to disappear and the work often leads her somewhere she never intended to go She is fascinated by the moment a painting leaves her private world and meets another’s gaze, when each viewer discovers a personal story, emotion, or meaning within it Perhaps this is the true magic of abstract art, the freedom to create from a deeply personal place while leaving space for others to bring their own worlds into the work Avital sometimes feels that she is not entirely in control of what ultimately appears on the canvas, as though something greater is guiding her hand. Her role, she feels, is simply to surrender to the process and enjoy the ride
